National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Sept. 26

Since 2002, prescription medications have contributed to the deaths of more than 9,000 Ohioans. To address the diversion of prescription medications, the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services have issued a statement encouraging all Ohio law enforcement agencies to participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Sept. 26.

Once an agency submits the proper information to become a participant, their location will be added to the DEA’s website as a participating collection site. You can access the page here. The agency conducts the take-back event at the specified location between 10 am and 2 pm. A DEA representative will then collect the drugs from each location to be destroyed at no cost.

Encourage the community to take part in the event, which can significantly reduce the number of drugs that could possibly be stolen, misused or abused.
