AMCNO Attends Event Urging Northeast Ohio Residents to Sign Up for Health Insurance as Deadline Nears

Recently, The Free Clinic held a press conference to ask the media to alert uninsured Northeast Ohio residents about the upcoming deadline to sign up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace. The AMCNO staff was invited to attend the event—as we are a member of the Cuyahoga Health Access Partnership (CHAP) —and Congresswoman Marcia Fudge and Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish served as guest speakers. Danny Williams, Executive Director of The Free Clinic, provided opening remarks.

For the first time this Open Enrollment period, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released enrollment numbers for the Cleveland metropolitan area and enrollment numbers by zip code.

“The new numbers show that Marketplace enrollment in Ohio is strong, with 226,156 already enrolling, and 81,207 in the Cleveland-Akron area,” said HHS Region 5 Director Kathleen Falk. “But we know there are many more still without coverage, including many in Cuyahoga County. That is why we so appreciate the efforts of Congresswoman Fudge and County Executive Budish in helping to get the word out so that no one wakes up on February 1 having missed this opportunity.”
