State Medical Board of Ohio Issues Guidance and Updated Resolution for Terminal Distributor’s License for Prescribers Compounding Dangerous Drugs

The State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) issued an updated guidance on June 6 advising previously exempted prescriber practices to refrain from applying to the Board as a Terminal Distributor of Dangerous Drugs until further notice, because of the recent feedback they have received regarding the prescriber compounding rules. (Read more about the rules here.)

The SMBO received a significant amount of feedback in the days leading up to the June meeting, so the Board needs additional time to consider the scope of Rule 4729-16-04. It will issue further guidance following the July meeting.

The Board encourages prescribers and prescriber associations to sign up for web updates by logging on to www.pharmacy.ohio.gov/update.

This guidance does not impact the implementation and enforcement of OAC 4729-16-11 for hazardous prescriber drug compounding.
