Have You Reviewed the GCOAT Acute Pain Guidelines Online Module?

All licensed physicians in Ohio should have received an email from the Governor’s Cabinet Opiate Action Team (GCOAT) requesting that they complete an online module covering guidelines for prescribing opioids to treat a patient for acute pain. The module is accessible only through an email sent directly to physicians in July.

Although completion of the state module is not mandatory for physicians, GCOAT says it will report the name of each physician and their score on the module to the State Medical Board of Ohio, so the SMBO is tracking how many physicians review the online module.

The state has not stated what they plan to do with information reported to licensing boards but there has been some discussion among state officials to make some aspects of pain management training mandatory in Ohio.
