Guidance for Hospitals Looking to Provide Naloxone Upon Patient Discharge

The State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy (BOP) has developed a guidance document for hospitals seeking to provide naloxone to at-risk individuals upon discharge following a non-fatal opioid-related overdose. Providing naloxone can be an effective tool to prevent a fatal overdose, as data indicates that a risk factor for a fatal overdose includes patients discharged from emergency medical care following opioid intoxication or poisoning.
