AMEF and AMCNO Collaborate with CWRU School of Medicine to Provide Opioid Prescribing Education Courses for Physicians

The ongoing opioid epidemic is a top priority for physicians and organized medicine, such as the Academy of Medicine of Cleveland & Northern Ohio (AMCNO) and its charitable component, the Academy of Medicine Education Foundation (AMEF). To address the problem head on, the CWRU School of Medicine, with grant support from AMEF, has designed an online course for physicians in all specialties, to help them increase their knowledge and ability to effectively prescribe controlled medications that have abuse potential, with the intention to curb opioid abuse and addiction.

The course agenda contains an introduction, “Prescription Drug Abuse Overview,” by Theodore V. Parran, MD, who is the Course Director, Carter and Isabel Wong Professor of Medical Education at the CWRU School of Medicine, and AMCNO member.

CWRU School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CWRU School of Medicine designates this enduring material for a maximum of 4.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
