CMS Announces New Voluntary Bundled Payment Model

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced the launch of a new voluntary bundled payment model—Bundle Payments for Care Improvement Advanced (BPCI Advanced), which is available to organizations in Region 5.

The application period for this model is open from Jan. 11 through March 12, 2018.

BPCI Advanced builds on lessons learned from current and previous CMS models, demonstrations and programs. This model will start on Oct. 1, 2018 and run through Dec. 31, 2023. The goal is to better support healthcare providers who invest in practice innovation, care redesign and enhanced care coordination. In addition, BPCI Advanced will qualify as an Advanced Alternative Payment Model (Advanced APM) as well as a Merit-based Incentive Payment System APM (MIPS APM) for select participants beginning in 2019, under the Quality Payment Program.
